Frequently asked questions for Reglazing and Refinishing

What is the difference between refinishing and reglazing?

They are two words that mean the same thing. Some people refer to what we do as reglazing while others refer to it as refinishing.

What is refinishing and reglazing?

Reglazing or refinishing is when you refinish the surface of something such as a tile, a porcelain or fiberglass bathtub, shower, countertop, or etc.

How do I know if my bathtub, shower, sink, countertop, tile wall or Jacuzzi needs to be reglazed?

Things to look for that that indicate a fixture needs to be reglazed are cracks, chips, discoloration, dirty grout that can’t be cleaned, stains, scratches, and leaks. Many people also choose to have old looking or outdated fixtures refinished to make them look like brand new.

Why should I reglaze instead of replacing my tub?

Replacing a bathtub may cost around $3000, reglazing is an efficient way to save money while still getting a brand new look of a tub.

How much does refinishing (reglazing) cost?

The price will vary depending on what needs to be reglazed. Prices start at $125 for a sink and $350 for a bathtub. Please contact us to receive an accurate quote.

What does the refinishing process involve?

After you call NewShine to book your refinishing appointment. Our licensed technician will arrive at your residence at the scheduled time to make your fixture look like new. When doing a refinishing job, our experienced technician employs the latest techniques and safety procedures as follows:

• Technicians will wear a special protective suit and a respirator

• Properly vents the bathroom

• Masks surfaces around the tub, such as the surround, wall, and floor

• Removes caulk and applies hydrofluoric acid to the tub’s surface
(This highly toxic acid dissolves the porcelain glaze and etches the surface so the new finish will stick).

• Washes away the hydrofluoric acid and applies new caulk

• Tub is dried by the use of a fan

• Two coats of fast-drying primer epoxy are sprayed on the tub

• Tub is cleaned to remove dust particle or other debris

• 3 coats of white or colored Acrylic polyurethane finish sprayed.

• Job finished – time elapsed approximately 4 hours

• At no time are the home’s residents subjected to fumes, loud noises or other things that can be especially annoying.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. We warranty for 2 years against peeling or lifting of the finish on its own. Do not confuse this with the expected lifespan of your finish. Just like a car will outlive its warranty, your finish will last much longer with proper care. We do not cover chips caused by impacts from above. If a touch up is required and falls within the limits of this guarantee, simply give us a call and we will repair your fixture for free.
